Ripon Flower Club celebrated its 50th Birthday three years ago, and did so with style and aplomb at Ripon’s Spa Hotel, where our guest was Ann Harding, N E Area President.
Our founder members remember the first years with affection and thanks to their care and foresight we proudly own a huge pictorial resource reflecting the changes in floral style and design over the half century. At present, we have 27 members and of course, due to the vagaries of the pandemic, some have not renewed their membership but no doubt will do so when we resume whatever is “Normal” at the Methodist Church Hall, Harrogate Road in Ripon on the third Wednesday of each month.. To maintain interest in our group throughout the last eighteen months we have a monthly amusing and informative Chairman’s Letter which sometimes includes pieces and anecdotes from members. We keep in touch with the more vulnerable members of our group and all members are aware of the NAFAS material available on line. We are fortunate enough to include within our talented group both National and Area Speakers, Demonstrators and Judges all of whom are glad to share their skills and proffer advice freely so that our individual creativity is enhanced and our love of flowers further enriched. Our yearly programme covers a great variety of topics ranging from hands – on willow weaving to watching demonstrations by well known professional demonstrators. Hopefully, it won’t be long before we are able to invite friends, families and interested members of the public to our Annual demonstration evening where we showcase our group and perhaps meet prospective new members. It goes without saying that we all enjoy our visits to Yorkshire’s many Open Gardens, especially those in the National Gardens Scheme!
