We are a small, friendly club which offers as much variation as possible to our members and guests.
Our programme consists of demonstrations, "in house" flower arranging workshops, challenge nights and an annual visit to a local garden. We keep in regular contact with all our members via email, text, messenger and Facebook. All members also receive a monthly newsletter prior to each club meeting. We also have our own Facebook page which has regular posts and features and is usually updated every 4 days. In addition the club organises separate flower arranging workshops and these are also open to members of the public. These are run every month at Sherburn in Elmet and are very well attended with no previous experience required. The fun with flowers workshop is now in its 10th year. It continues to flourish with three sessions a month and an average of thirty enthusiastic people attending each one. It has helped to boost our flower club membership and given it a new vibrancy.
Fun with Flowers - an initiativeThe Fun with Flowers workshops were introduced over 10 years ago to raise funds for the flower club. Membership had fallen to below 20 and it was becoming more and more difficult to offer a varied programme. Closure looked imminent.
We began with 9 members supporting this venture. The premise was that for £10, the flowers, foliage and accessories were all provided along with step-by-step tuition. This was, and still is, a winning formula albeit the cost is now £17.50. For beginners it reduces the worry of bringing the correct materials. As for the more experienced, it is a chance to play with lovely flowers. Due to the success of the workshops, we have now extended them to the public. As a result, we have over 120 keen enthusiasts on the database. The 3 workshops are held, normally at the weekends with 30 to 35 people attending each session, many of which are of the younger generation. There are now over 50 members of the club. The club monthly meetings have a renewed vibrancy and we enjoy a varied programme of demonstrations, workshops, practice nights some with slightly unusual aspects. The financial position is now stable and we continue to attract more new members as our success increases. Castleford Flower Club Facebook page , updated every 4 days, is also very active. Castleford's July meeting was a workshop themed around "Summer Holiday". They created a sandcastle design, enjoyed a cornetto, had a fun photo opportunity and guessed the member from a holiday photo from an earlier year. All in all it was a fun night - see photos below...
