The Chairman's Letter Autumn 2024
Dear Members and Friends
Autumn has defiantly arrived with evenings starting to draw in and cooler weather arriving but as I write this letter the sun is shining so let’s hope we have lots more sunny days to come over the next few months. I find it is a busy time of the year preparing the garden for the winter and planting bulbs for the spring. Also picking the harvest of fruit and making jam and pickling onions etc. The Harrogate Autumn Flower Show held on the 13th -15th September at Newby Hall was a great success for us this year as we were able to hold three competition classes one being a Novice class. The standard was really high and it was lovely to see the public taking such a great interest in the exhibits. My congratulations go to all that entered as I know how much hard work the exhibitors have put into displaying their designs and I was thrilled to see such new talent around. I would also like to congratulate all those who were awarded a prize. We were also lucky with the weather as it remained dry most of the time with only the Sunday morning being a bit showery. We are going to able to hold 3 classes next year which is very good news. The Education Day which was held on the 21st September at New Earswick Folk Hall was a great success. The Tutor, Sara Barrow demonstrated to members various techniques in being able to make floral jewellery using aluminium wire, foliage and flowers. Everyone turned out some very beautiful pieces at the end of the afternoon. Further dates for your diary:

There will be a short break when you can either purchase a lunch at the café or bring your own. This will be followed by the AGM at 1pm. Please note the change of times. I cannot believe that this is my last newsletter, as my term of office as Area Chairman of the North East Area will come to a close on the November the 16th 2024. How time flies! I have thoroughly enjoyed my term of office and I would like to thank you all for your support, kindness and wonderful hospitality I have received over the last few years. I have had a wonderful time getting involved in various events and getting to know members better.
I wish your new Chairman, Rita Braithwaite all the very best and I know the Area will remain in good hands as the whole executive team work well together, support each other and have the clubs’ best interest at heart. I would like to wish you all the very best and that you continue to enjoy meeting likeminded people in your clubs and playing with flowers.
