Dawn Meakin
The Area Education Representative is Dawn Meakin. Whilst Dawn wished the retiring Education Representative Vanessa well in her new roles, Dawn was delighted at the AGM in November 2023 and felt it a true honour to accept the role of Area Education Representative. President of Pennine Borders Flower Club is also one of Dawns roles, along with one of the tutors and webmaster. Dawn is a NAFAS approved Area & National Teacher as well as an Area Judge. Dawn is looking forward together with Christine in leading education groups forth into the wonderful world of Floral Art.
The Deputy Education Representative is Christine Hinchcliffe. Christine is currently a member of Headingley Flower Club at Bramhope. She is a NAFAS Area Demonstrator and teacher.

Education in the North East Area
Are you interested in the wonderful world of floral Art, keeping up to date with trend and techniques, making new like-minded friends, all in a relaxed friendly atmosphere? Then join Dawn and Christine, within the education group. You do not have to be a teacher, just a member of a flower club. The annual membership costs £45 for two full workshop days with innovative teachers, offering their inspirational ideas, with support and guidance throughout. North East Area Teachers
JUNE BORROWDALE (NATIONAL TEACHER) June is a Cert.Ed. Teacher on the NAFAS National List and is passionate about education and lifelong learning. She served for 4 years as a member of the NAFAS National Education Committee, three years of which were spent as Editor of Insight, the NAFAS Educational Journal, with three issues being published each year. June taught floral art up to Diploma level at Doncaster College and flower arranging and floristry at North Nottinghamshire College for many years before taking the leap to leave and become an independent tutor, NAFAS Area Demonstrator and Area Judge. June is based in Carlton-in-Lindrick near Worksop in North Nottinghamshire and enjoys travelling any distance to tutor workshops and day schools for flower clubs and organisations, having visited Scotland several times, Spain and Dublin to teach. She offers several topics for workshops but prefers to create bespoke sessions for clubs to suit their individual requirements. June is a firm believer in ‘fun with flowers’ and her popular workshops are informative, but relaxed and encouraging.
JAN FAULKNER (NATIONAL TEACHER) Jan is a National Teacher and an Area Demonstrator and lives in Great Ayton, North Yorkshire near Middlesbrough. In 2005 she set up her own business Flowers by Jan Faulkner and specialises in Weddings and new for 2019 Monthly workshops. Click here to access Jan’s website. Logo – Personal Floristry with passion. Jan is a long term NAFAS Member of Stokesley and District flower club, having been chairman, recycled again and is currently vice chairman. Member of New Dimensions- having been Programme secretary and chairman . Also a member of Cutting Edge and North East Area Education And Northumberland and Durham Area Education. Jan believes there’s always something new to learn and isn’t ready to retire yet
SUSAN HALL Susan is an Area Teacher with qualifications in City and Guilds 7307 and 7900 parts 1 and 2. This was followed with a qualification in teaching. She has a passion for teaching people to create different designs, by introducing new ideas for them to explore and inspiring their creativity. Susan teaches traditional and contemporary flower arranging and is happy to plan workshops to suit the requirements of all flower clubs..
CHRISTINE HINCHCLIFFE Based in Leeds, Christine qualified as a NAFAS/ONC teacher in 2017 so is available for workshops. She is a member of Headingley Flower Club at Bramhope. An enthusiastic floral designer Christine offers a great variety of designs from traditional through to modern and contemporary styles. Conscious of current trends she tries to share her love of plant material, flowers and art with her enthusiasm for modern design techniques. DAWN MEAKIN After receiving her NAFAS Diploma in 2011, and graduating with the Certificate in Education at Huddersfield University, Dawn became a NAFAS Area Teacher and Independent Floral Art Tutor. Dawn thoroughly enjoys travelling to flower clubs anywhere in the North East Area, even at short notice, to share her knowledge, to deliver workshops in an informative, but very friendly way to suit all levels and abilities. Many titles are available please contact her for a more tailored title for your club or event. Attendance at teachers refresher and education days are very important to Dawn to keep up to date with all the latest trends and techniques, along with lots of home independent study and experimentation. Dawn is an approved NAFAS Area and National teacher enabling her to teach the NAFAS Individual courses levels 1, 2, & 3 from a purpose built studio at home. Dawn also teaches both certificated and leisure classes, through local colleges, church halls, etc. for all level of abilities. Within all classes wherever Dawn is, you can guarantee to learn something from a NAFAS tutor and the NAFAS judge’s eye will also, shine through. LUCY RICHARDSON (NATIONAL TEACHER) Lucy is both an Area and National teacher. She has many years’ experience in teaching floristry and now enjoys teaching workshops to flower clubs and floral art groups. She specialises in techniques, forms and structures, giving step by step instructions and encouraging people to develop their own design. She has travelled all over the UK teaching at many Area events, the National Teachers Symposium and the SAFAS Imbizo. She believes that teaching is about learning good mechanics, a new skill and enjoying yourself without the paperwork! JUDY WATKER Judy currently teaches evening classes in Floral Art at The Grammar School at Leeds, having been successful in passing the inaugural NAFAS Teacher Training Course in 2012.
